Makers entitlement missing – SOLIDWORKS Connected not available
My SOLIDWORKS Makers entitlement is missing from my 3DEXPERIENCE account. SOLIDWORKS Connected does not appear in the Compass, and I receive “Access Denied – You don’t have access to this platform.” This occurred after repeated license verification failures. Please reset my Makers entitlement and clear all active sessions on my account.
13 year-old + SW for Makers + CyberBrick
Let's consider three ingredients: 1 x 8 grade student, SW for Makers CyberBrick Mix well, bake and serve this: https://youtu.be/wxbHR4YOj8A This project grew out of a grade 8 school assignment where my son needed to research and design different mechanisms. What better way to learn than by combining SOLIDWORKS with hands-on making? He started by printing, assembling, and programming the Official CyberBrick Forklift, which gave him a good start in evaluating a mechanical design combined with
Kickr Core - "Rocker Plate"-Replacement
When it is cold and too dangerous to ride outside, but you don’t want to lose your fitness over the winter, it is time to bring the Kickr Core into the living room. Training “in a tight corset” is tough though, and it starts to hurt when you ride longer than two hours. A rocker plate under the trainer can give some relief, but it is heavy and bulky. So, as a DIY solution, I gave the trainer “legs” saddled on tennis balls, allowing it to wiggle a bit while riding through the training plan. When I

Custom Jewelry Gift Created in xDesign
Hey everyone! I wanted to share a fun project I recently completed using xDesign and the sub-d modeling tools. My brother, an avid Toto fan and talented drummer, asked me to create a design inspired by a Toto album emblem—think rings and swords in an epic, rock-n-roll style! He originally wanted me to draw the Toto "The Seventh One" album cover drawn as a tattoo design. I pivoted to something my parents might prefer over a tattoo and designed a pendant necklace instead. I started by 3D
Card holder for christmas
Hello I'm based in Vélizy and would like to print the attach file. Objective is to help Justine who can't hold UNO cards with her (too) little hands with a customized 3D Printed card holder Please keep this as a secret as it's a christmas gift and she's still a believer... 😉 Thanks a lot ! Chair Foot Adapters
Apparently I have a penchant for the "boring but necessary" projects . . . this one is no different. Our dining room chairs have slim, rectangular, tubular legs that have little plastic inserts that would work great on hard floors. They do not work very well on carpet, in fact, it is extremely difficult to move the chairs - something needed to be done! There are flexible rubber/plastic 'glides' that are made to slip over larger square (and round) chair legs, which would have been great, but our

The G.O.A.T
This year, for a new annual festival here in the north east, we (Orbital FX) were tasked to design & fabricate a 6 meter high Yule Goat....thats right ... a Goat ... and for the metrically challenged among you that's around 20ft, after meeting with the Client and discussing the parameters we began our first drafts in .. of course solidworks, because of the geometric nature of the things we were looking to evoke hand carved anglo saxon era sculpture wood with appropriote coverings fit for a

Sentimental Project
I'm not going to lie, this was a really tough project. Nothing too difficult about the design, that was pretty straightforward. It was working on the actual project that was somewhat tough. In 2020, our Corgi (Ash) was diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy. This is somewhat similar to ALS in people, the body just starts shutting down. For Ash, it started in his hind legs, and before too long, he was in a wheelchair to help him get around. He loved playing in the snow, so I designed & 3d
Chronos Navigator
Allow me to introduce the Chronos Navigator—a wheelchair that goes far beyond mobility. It's a fusion of engineering, art, and empowerment, brought to life through the spirit of Steampunk design. The project began as a challenge from a friend and a personal desire to push my creative boundaries with SOLIDWORKS. I wanted to transform something purely functional a wheelchair into a piece that combined mechanical precision with artistic imagination. The entire design was created and modeled in
SOLIDWORKS, 13-year-olds and Forklifts...
I love the official CyberBrick Forklift! It is such a great way to spark curiosity in young minds. For my 13-year-old, it became a gateway into understanding how machines work and how attachments expand their capabilities. After diving into forklift research and starting his journey with #SOLIDWORKS, he chose the Carpet Ram as his first scratch-modeled attachment. Inspired by real-world designs, he created a version that fits perfectly the CyberBrick Forklift and handles multicolored spool

Customizable Gift Box with Personalized Christmas Ornament
I love the new Christmas Ornament Maker from the Maker Lab. Last year I was tasked to model and print the toys for the kids of my colleagues. The biggest challenge was finding the answer to this question: “What to give a 4-month old?”. The answer - a Christmas Ornament like the one below: To properly present and preserve such a beauty, we need an amazing gift box that slides smoothly to reveal the gorgeous ornament. Instructions for personalizing this ornament and its gift box can be found
What Happens Inside a Pokéball?
It’s a simple question — yet one that’s gone unanswered for over 20 years. Searching online, I found several theories. For example, in the Pokémon manga, Pokéballs are transparent, so we can see what’s inside. But honestly, it’s kind of sad to see those little creatures all cramped up. Then I found that not long ago, the animated series explained that the interior is more like a cozy chamber where Pokémon can relax. Finally, I stumbled upon this image on Reddit of a Pikachu chilling inside a

Improving a vacuum system for 3axis milling machine
The Velizy Fablab is equiped with a lot of cool machines, part of it is a big 3Axis Mecanumeric (Mecafab 2513). Unfortunately the default vacuum is totaly unefficient, so machining wood is a hell of dust and chips all over the room. As we are also equiped with a very efficient vacuum offering a 12cm pipe, I designed and fabricated a new vacuum system adapted to the machine. Here is the setup in action, as you can see: no dust nor chips ! This system is of course removable to ease the tools
Security Camera - Window Integration
I wanted to see how well a budget indoor camera could capture images through a window. The biggest challenge? Glare. The theory states that the closer the camera is to the glass, the better the image quality. To minimize reflections while still allowing the camera to pan and tilt, I designed and 3D-printed a custom holder that positions the camera just 1 mm from the glass. It blends nicely with the window frame and keeps everything stable. If only the power cable was also white…

Pimp my ride - Full custom Chain Guard
Hey, What about a creative approach to solve an issue that was a bike that was missing its chain guard — the essential piece that keeps pant legs clean and free from greasy chain kisses. So, in true “Pimp My Ride” fashion, we took things up a notch! The part was custom-designed in 3D to perfectly fit the bike, adding both style and function. Then, it was brought to life on a 3D printer, layer by layer, like a mini piece of engineering magic. To make it extra special, the rider’s name was

Pimp my car with the help of the milling machine!
I’m currently driving an old Škoda from the Stone Age — and as charming as it is, its speakers have long since given up. Since I love listening to music while driving, and a Bluetooth box isn’t a long-term solution, my partner and I decided it was finally time to fix the speakers. When choosing replacements, it quickly became clear that I didn’t just want new speakers — I wanted better sound quality. That meant the car needed some modifications, and custom speaker frames had to be created.
Replacement Lids - Pyrex & Anchor Containers
We have a lot of Pyrex and Anchor glass containers at home, and over time, the original lids tend to disintegrate. This project started as a design challenge—not a food safety solution—but a way to explore multi-material 3D printing and solve a problem. I reverse-engineered the lids for the containers that needed replacements. My first attempt was printing entirely in TPU. The fit was perfect, but the lid was too flexible—it couldn’t support any weight if you tried to stack another container on

DIY Dartboard LED Ring 🎯
This post to share with you my little 3DPrinting project to make a Dartboard LED ring. I wanted a LED ring for my dartboard setup, but most commercial versions cost around €80. After a bit of searching on Thingiverse, I found a great project to 3D print Dartboard LED Ring. It is pretty easy: Print the parts following the guidelines Use some glue to create the circle Add magnets and a LED strip Now I’ve got a cool DIY dartboard LED ring at a fraction of the price 😀 🎯 Setup and Print Many

Reinventing parachute
You may not know this yet, but in Japanese culture, Kirigami is the art of cutting and folding paper. Professors David Mélançon and Frédérick Gosselin of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal, Canada, used this technique to revolutionize parachute design. The idea was born at a conference in the United States, where Gosselin discovered how kirigami patterns could modify the properties of plastic sheets. He then collaborated with French researcher Sophie

Wallmount for an expensive router
This week, I created a 3D model for a wall-mounted case for a Netgear Nighthawk router. The design allows the router to be securely fixed to a wall while keeping the power cable and ventilation unobstructed. The original mount costs €50, which is way too expensive and isn't ventilated. So my first pitch with a 3D printer It’s a simple prototype, but the main goal is to test the full workflow with the DS Munich FabLab — from CAD design to print and final fitting. AND what should I say...
Protective Case for Ultrasonic Anemometer
Some time ago, I wanted to build my own ultrasonic wind sensor, since professional units can cost a small fortune. However, during my research I came across a great ready-made and compact solution from Calypso Instruments - a wireless (Bluetooth) ultrasonic wind sensor powered by a built-in photovoltaic cell. Because I remove the sensor from my sailboat after every trip, I needed a protective case to keep it safe from mechanical damage and dirt during transport and storage. So I decided to
Mini-MIC Station Improvement
We recently carried out an improvement project on the mini-MIC, our workstation designed for demonstrations at trade shows and events. After observing how it was used, we identified several points to improve: lack of space for keyboard and mouse → added a drawer, limited space for certain components → added a shelf, need to keep instructions accessible → integrated a binder, issues with some technical parts → 3D-printed new components, cabinet that wouldn’t close and messy storage → added a lock
More hidden combat robot engineering: Self-cooling vents in a rotating drum
Another entry today in the theme of “the combat robot engineering you don't see”, this time from my teammate Peter Lombardo and his full-body spinning drum robot Bee Roll! Sometimes in robotics specifically, or any project with a lot of moving parts, you realize solid expectations and assumptions were actually wrong. Time and effort can be spent addressing these things and that time isn't wasted, even though it doesn't address the direct issue. At the end of the day, this hobby is about
Students learn SOLIDWORKS xDesign
End of July the 3DEXPERIENCE Edu team was invited to Eugen-Bolz-Gymnasium in Germany to organize two project days on the topic of “How Products are Designed in 3D”. More than 20 students aged 12-17 enthusiastically learned how to design with SOLIDWORKS xDesign. 🔹 From idea & sketch to 3D modeling with xDesign 🔹 Their first product: a 3D-printed smartphone holder with personal initials It was really fun and fascinating to see how quickly the students became creative and interested in designing
Custom Guitar Stand Design Using 3D Scanning & Hybrid Fabrication 🎸
At the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab Munich – FabLab, I designed a custom guitar stand using a combination of 3D scanning, CNC cutting, and 3D printing. Here’s the workflow I followed: 🔹 3D Scanning – I scanned the guitar to capture its exact shape. Since the guitar is asymmetrical, accurate scanning was crucial to ensure a perfect fit. 🔹 Designing the Stand – Using the scanned data, I designed the holder in CATIA, including the connection part that would be 3D printed. 🔹 CNC Cutting & 3D Printing – Using
DIY Spot Welder Build
I’ve been meaning to post this for a while now. Wanted to share a little project I’ve been working on a metal spot welder (mainly for Li-ion cells). The case is recycled from an old car battery charger (a little zero-waste spirit ✌️ ) and all the custom parts: the front panel, PCB mount, covers, and brackets were 3D printed at 3DEXPERIENCE Lab Munich on a Bambu H2D with a smooth PEI plate. Really happy with how clean the prints came out!!!

The Creation of the MMX Championship Belt
Model Mania Xtreme was born from a simple idea: let’s give designers a stage to go head-to-head in intense, fast-paced 3D modeling battles. These showdowns bring out the best in our community — friends and co-workers pushing each other in a fun, competitive environment. But make no mistake, this sport demands real skill. It takes grit, stamina, lightning-fast reflexes, and total command of the virtual world. It’s athleticism for the digital age — and we knew it deserved a spotlight. That’s why
Made in xDesign: Fillet Gauge⚙️
xDesign 3d print Makers 3D xshape I’ve been working on a nebulizer model in xDesign, to create an assembly combining parametric and subdivision modeling. To nail the accuracy, I needed a way to measure those tricky little curves, so I 3D Printed my own fillet gauge. It’s simple but super handy for quickly checking radii on parts. The numbers are raised slightly to allow for a material change on single-extruder 3D Printers, making them much easier to read. Want to try it? Print your own and see

Lightweight Racing Car Spaceframe Chassis Design
I modeled a tubular spaceframe chassis for a single‐seater racing car using SOLIDWORKS Weldments and 3D Sketch. By defining critical load paths in a 3D sketch, I optimized tube placement and cross‐section profiles for stiffness without excess weight. Custom weldment profiles, gussets, and mounting plates were added at suspension and powertrain interfaces, with stress and fatigue considerations guiding joint reinforcement. The final model includes a complete cut list and BOM, streamlining the

Floating Lamp Project
Hello Makers! I'm David, currently interning at the 3DExperience Lab, I'm very excited to share a glimpse of a new project I’ve been developing as an industrial design engineer, working with a prototype-driven approach using all the Lab tools. Together with Sean, we started by experimenting with an electromagnetic base and a magnetic LED component that levitates—suspended between two fields while lighting up. Hi Makers! My name is Ivy, and I'm an intern at the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab this summer! I've been working on a gumball machine for visitors who’d like to take home some Lab merch. I designed the machine in SOLIDWORKS and exported each individual wooden piece, with tabs and slots, as DXFs. I’ve completed a prototype using the laser cutter, which revealed several issues I need to address: What’s the best way to refill the capsules? Would a thicker wood material work better? How should the clear acrylic
Fab-in-a-Box: Making Fabrication Accessible to More People
At the 3DEXPERIENCE 2025 conference, the Fab-in-a-Box project was announced on main stage and showcased in the EDU zone. Fab-in-a-Box is an initiative spearheaded by the Fab Foundation to provide "a low-cost, high-impact, digital fabrication kit for education". Last week, we were at the MIT Media Lab to help support a beta test of the unit and lesson plans with a few high school students. The session introduced the students to xDesign and guided them in designing and fabricating custom gliders.

SOLIDWORKS x USA LUGE
In addition to designing and testing parts for our sleds, USA Luge relies on SOLIDWORKS in designing the tooling around our parts and molds. This summer, our athletes will be working hard preparing for the games to be held in Italy in February 2026. Our Stratasys printer will be just as busy producing parts and tooling designed in SOLIDWORKS!
How to delete and replace my model from HomeByMe
Why would I want to replace my published model in HomeByMe? It's very likely that you are reading this because you made some improvements to your model that you originally published and want to update it in HomeByMe. Once a model is published, it cannot be changed. The name and description can be edited, but the actual model will need to be removed entirely and replaced with the updated version. This is also a helpful workflow if you decide you no longer wish for other Makers to be able to add

Quadbike
For over five years, I've been looking for an alternative means of transportation that combines pleasure, safety, and comfort, without a combustion engine and conducive to physical activity. After much exploration, I discovered velomobiles and intermediate vehicles. The QBX Quadbike caught my interest with its design, robustness, and ease of movement without a bodywork. I found a used model that I dismantled, restored, and repainted, incorporating a 350W power assistance system. Its metal frame,
Looking for ideas on car part creation...
Hello All, Finally dove into a project sitting in the back of my shop - a 57 TBird rebuild from the ground up! Ripped it down to the last nut and bolt and shipped the body off for some work. Finished stripping the chassis this past week for a sand blast and epoxy undercoat. I just do engines/chassis work so leave that stuff to the experts. Now I am looking at refinish and reassembly. One issue I need expertise on is the tail light housings. They are rather tired after 68 years and my mom backing
