Making a custom golf putter from scratch!

Imagine playing golf with a putter you designed yourself. That's exactly what I did!  I decided to create a custom golf putter with a transparent core, aiming to elevate my short game and outplay my kids on the green.

For me, being an Industrial Designer isn't just a job—it's a passion. There's an indescribable satisfaction in taking an idea and bringing it to life, improving everyday objects with creativity and style. Over the past twenty years, I've honed my skills, constantly seeking to enhance life.

Curiosity about my creative process led me to develop a video series, breaking down my process of design into four phases. From conception to execution, I share insights on how I approach design challenges, answering questions like "How did you make that?" and "Where do you even start?"

The video series is hosted on the MADE in 3D community within the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform—an ideal space for sharing projects and finding inspiration among fellow makers worldwide. It's a hub where creativity thrives, and where ideas take shape beyond imagination.

Designing my own golf putter wasn't just about improving my game—it was about embracing the joy of creation. Through sharing my process, I hope to inspire others to unleash their creativity and embark on their own design adventures.

This Creative Design Process has been key to countless design challenges during my industrial design career. I've picked up these phases and tips from various sources – past projects, friends, colleagues, and clients.  It's crucial to slow down and reflect on these phases, understanding that they work in a circular fashion, each phase influencing the other.

GOLF PUTTER Creative Design Part 1

Understanding: In this phase, dive into researching your project to grasp its purpose thoroughly. Create a custom artboard to visualize initial ideas and understand competitors.

GOLF PUTTER Creative Design Part 2

Conceptualizing: Time to let those creative juices flow! Sketch out your wildest ideas without worrying about rules. The crazier, the better. Embrace the chaos and let your imagination run wild.

GOLF PUTTER Creative Design Part 3

Designing: Refine initial sketches using 3D models, considering scale, specifications, and exploring color and material options. Share detailed renderings for feedback.

GOLF PUTTER Creative Design Part 4

Creating: Roll up your sleeves and get hands-on with crafting your design. This is where all that planning pays off. Time to bring your vision to life!

As a designer, my mission is simple – have FUN, create products that kick things up a notch, and stir emotions.  I'm always pushing myself to learn new techniques, refine my craft, and fuel my creative superpowers. Being creative, in my book, is the most human thing you can do.  So, whether you're tackling your own project or just along for the ride, enjoy all four phases of the design process and remember – being creative is as human as it gets!

Cheers to creativity,
