Hoverboard (WIP)

I think we can all agree that ever since a certain '80s movie, we've all wanted a hoverboard.  I set out to create something that would look like it "worked" and with a bit more detail to it.  I started taking inspiration from many existing hoverboard concepts and futuristic tech images and started thinking about how to merge them into a cohesive design.

Every board probably needs the same key aspects (foot pads, gravity discs, power source, etc.). However I wanted to crank the design up to 11.  That meant adding retractable wings, plenty of details to the gravity discs, an “open” nose, sensors and lights around the model, pistons, and applying a 2nd “moveable” deck just for fun.

While I’m getting close to finishing the overall design, I know I’m still missing wiring, power/batteries, colors, materials, and other small details which would make the design pop even further.  I have ideas in my head; I just haven’t had a chance to model them up.  Since this is a mashup of concepts, it has taken me a bit longer than I had initially planned.  I've had to put some extra thought in how all of these things would go together in a cohesive manner, continually modifying shapes so it didn’t look ugly when all combined.  And every time I added a small detail here or there, I noticed a new area that needed a bit more detailing in order to give just a little more *chef’s kiss* to the model.

It has been a lot of fun designing new elements and this has been a true labor of love.  In the end, this is just a Pt.1; I’ll be back with Pt. 2 (eventually.)  Hopefully by then the design will incorporate elements that make it work on water.
