Obtaining True K₀ Stress Distribution in Abaqus/Explicit for Slope Simulations
I am analyzing different lateral earth pressure conditions (K₀), and I need to obtain an accurate initial stress distribution for values up to K₀ = 1.5. My current approach and the challenges are summarized below: Initially, I relied on the stress state generated by gravity loading using a Mohr–Coulomb plasticity model. With a Poisson’s ratio of 0.33, this produced a reasonable stress distribution corresponding to K₀ ≈ 0.5. To achieve higher K₀ values (e.g., 1.5), it is not physically valid to

Abaqus/Explicit CEL slope: toe erosion via VUSDFLD field variable — no response after Step 2, KE drops to zero, total energy becomes negative
Hello everyone, I am simulating a geotechnical slope using Abaqus/Explicit CEL. In my model, Zone 2 (red marked region in the figure) represents the toe of the slope. My analysis has three steps: Step 1 (Geostatic / initial stress build-up): the slope is stable. Step 2 (Toe erosion): I weaken the toe region (Zone 2). Step 3 (Post-erosion response): I expect instability / deformation triggered by toe weakening. How I implemented toe weakeningBecause this is CEL, I cannot easily isolate toe vs

CST - RFID/Backscatter Simulation
Hi, I would like to simulate a real world system I have but in CST Studio Suite to get a better understanding of the electromagnetics behind it. The initial state import is incompatible with the crack analysis using XFEM

ALE MESH AND UMESHMOTION
Hello, I’m working with an ALE mesh and the UMESHMOTION subroutine. For testing purposes I’m simply trying to impose a uniform prescribed displacement on a surface using UMESHMOTION. However, the nodes close to partitions and other edges of the surface do not experience the same displacement magnitude as the rest of the surface. Is there any specific control, setting, or recommended procedure for this type of problem?

Manatee | Frequently Asked Questions
Can Manatee be used in 3DEXPERIENCE platform? Manatee 2025x is currently on premise. Long-term roadmap includes the availability of Manatee in 3DEXPERIENCE platform to leverage MODSIM capabilities. What is e-NVH? e-NVH means electrical or electromagnetic Noise, Vibration, Harshness, so NVH problems are caused by electromagnetic forces. E-NVH includes noise of passive components (inductors, transformers, capacitors…) and rotating machines (electric motors, generators…). SIMULIA Manatee only
Abaqus- error to many increments
Abaqus CAE Hi I am a bit new to using FEA software and have been given a project by my university to design a connecting rod for use in a automotive system. right now I have made the model as seen in the image, imported it into ABAQUS and I am trying to see were the stress is acting and what area material can be reduced. The problem is that I keep getting an error message and I have no idea what's gone wrong and the message file isn't that helpful. I was able to make a simple model with the

Customer Story | Techsburg
Techsburg required a solution to mitigate aircraft noise and analyze complex gas turbine fluid dynamics for safety and compliance purposes. With PowerFLOW, they were able to simulate noise and airflow behaviors early on, reducing the need for costly physical testing. This strategy saved them significant time and resources while sharpening their competitive edge. Watch the video Read the blog article
Pressurization of sealed liquid tank
I want to simulate the pressurization of heated sealed tank contained water and air. I am using VOF in FMK. The pressurization is due heating of the water. part of the water would vaporize, and the bulk would volumetrically expand. Previous paper uses Boussinseq model for the water and ideal gas for the air. How can I implement this setup in FMK?
Blog Roundup | November 2025
It's hard to believe that 2025 is almost over! We had some great blogs last month, from revolutionizing packaging design with virtual box compression testing to streamlining additive manufacturing workflows with DELMIA and SIMULIA, innovation is driving efficiency and cost savings across industries. Techsburg leverages PowerFLOW to reduce aircraft noise and optimize gas turbine safety, while SIMULIA CEO Michelle Ash highlights how AI and machine learning are reshaping engineering creativity.
Why does my ABAQUS simulation stop writing the .fil file incorrectly after each 1033rd increment and how to fix this?
I have a problem regarding an ABAQUS simulation with UMAT. At exactly every 1033rd (this number depends on the mesh size, for a mesh with approximately double the mesh size and half the elements, this is every 2073rd increment) increment, ABAQUS receives a total time, time(2) (or array(3) from posfil), of ~ 1e-320, which suggests underflow. The UMAT right before this URDFIL gets the correct total time, time(2), as it should be. All the other values are also correct at the end of the UMAT. The
Powercase internal flow
Is there any reference simulation file for internal flow for acoustic study using PowerFlow tool? or any PDF manuel so that I can setup a similar case?
for a 3D model that is pressed against a table and electrified, how should the bottom surface be constrained?
In ABAQUS, for a 3D model that is pressed against a table and electrified, how should the bottom surface be constrained? I do not want to fully fix it, as I need to consider the material expansion due to temperature rise from electrical heating. When modeling, I do not include the table and apply constraints directly to the bottom surface of the module.
Force ABAQUS UMAT to single core operation
Hi there. I am working on a UMAT and it seems to be running on multiple processes/threads. I printed a lot of values to debug and its printed multiple times(8-16 times par se). I see repeated printouts of same KINC multiple times so it must be printing from all processes/threads right? I set cpus=1, standard_parallel=solver and some tried other omp commands too. Didn't change. I am trying to accumulate a variable over the simulation but its not accumulating correctly. it's different over the

Modeling resistance forces in Simpack
Hello, I am wondering if there is an easy way in Simpack Rail to model drag resistance forces (meaning, proportional to the square of the carriage velocity). I haven't seen any modeling element useful in that direction so far, but this seems pretty standard so I assume there has to be a way which is already implemented. Thanks.
