Enhanced Example: Managing a Product’s Test Data

As part of the R2025x FD03 user assistance, SIMULIA R&D enhanced the test management example so that it better illustrates how to plan virtual tests and organize the associated test data.

The objective of this example remains the same as before. You must manage a product’s test data in a manner that lets you easily determine its best design. In this example, the product is a bracket for which there are two designs, as shown below. While managing the bracket’s test data, you learn how to define an overall testing strategy (i.e., create a test specification object), validate your test environment (i.e., create test case objects), and summarize test results (i.e., assign pass/fail statuses and report issues). To help you summarize the test results, you are provided a test specification that contains requirements for the product’s strength, factor of safety, and weight. You compare the test results to these requirements, which ultimately helps you select the best design.

Compared with the first release, the latest version of this example follows a more realistic workflow. Rather than test two product designs in tandem until either product fails to meet a requirement, you now test each design for all tests and determine whether it passes or fails. If the design fails any of the tests, you use the app to report this issue. Reporting issues is a new aspect of this example. In addition to reporting issues, you revise test objects as a way of testing multiple designs. For example, you revise the original test specification, test cases, and test executions to test the second bracket design. This workflow more closely mimics real-world practices.

You must have access to the following apps to complete this example:

  • Validation and Verification Strategy
  • Validation and Verification Library
  • Test Results Capture
