We are trying to add hardware as parts to track quantities naturally through the BOM.  We have created a new Bolt part with no geometry and have patterned the part inside of the assembly.

This works fine for <500 bolts, but our quantities are going to be about 5,000 on average.  When we make the quantity that high, the performance suffers greatly and the filesize increases greatly (from .2MB to 20MB).

Does anyone have any recommendations about tracking large quantities of hardware?

We have ruled out the “BOM quantity:” drop-down because we want to reuse these dummy hardware parts in other assemblies.

Is there another way you have used to store quantities as custom properties and get them into the BOM without real parts?
