I'd like to identify the comment character which allows one to include a short comment in an external file in which linked, global variables are defined.  I'm also interested in knowing if I can use the same character at the beginning of its own line.  The use-case here is, say, to include a little header or note at the beginning of a block of variables.  Any comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
