Isight Workshop Series on a Honeycomb Sandwich Panel: Part 3

Part 3 - Approximation Model of the Honeycomb Panel

While running a design of experiments on the honeycomb structure, you may have observed that a single Abaqus simulation takes several minutes to execute. Thus, optimization runs on such FE models would take more than a few hours to run. This execution time can be drastically reduced by defining an Approximation based on the DOE results and then running an Optimization on the created Approximation.

In this workshop, we will build a mathematical model that approximates the inputs and outputs from our DOE study on the honeycomb panel.  Then we will perform an error analysis to verify the accuracy of the approximation.  Once we have created an approximation model that represents the behavior of our simulation model fairly accurately, we can use that model for further design studies like optimization or reliability analysis.
