Fest3D is our software tool for designing and analyzing microwave components based on waveguide and coaxial cavity technology. It offers an incredibly fast and accurate simulation for waveguide and cavity components. In these videos, we introduce Fest3D, its technology and its capabilities.
In the first part, we explain the basics of Fest3D, including how it works and the available workflows. You will see how various filters and waveguide components can be synthesized and optimized, and how it can be linked to electromagnetic simulation in SIMULIA CST Studio Suite.
In the second part, we introduce Fest3D Graphical User Interface. We will show the main GUI working areas such as the canvas, the element library or the output window. On top of that, we will also demonstrate the main actions that can be done from the menu bar.
Next, we provide a step by step tutorial to create a Fest3D project. This tutorial covers the generation of the 3D model via parameters, the simulation set-up including the definition of ports and S-parameter sweeps and, finally, the simulation run and the output results.
Finally, we demonstrate the link between Fest3D and the electromagnetic simulation tool CST Studio Suite. Importing a filter synthesized in Fest3D into CST Studio Suite allows users to embed the filter in a larger system, or to analyze and optimize the 3D geometry of the filter with CST Studio Suite technology. We show both how to import a Fest3D model into a CST Studio Suite project, and how to create a new CST Studio Suite simulation project from Fest3D with a pre-defined optimization workflow.
Keep an eye out for upcoming videos in this series, where we will demonstrate the synthesis and optimization of specific types of filters, such as an interdigital filter, and filters for low-pass, band-pass and dual mode applications.
