Introduction
In the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, branching product structures allows you to perform the isolated design studies to explore alternatives or address flaws in the current design. It also ensures that components in production remain unaffected by these studies or corrections. Once a study is complete, the content of a chosen branch can be merged into a new revision.
Refer to this blog to learn more about Branching basics.
This blog explains how you can create a branch from a filtered product structure and seamlessly perform comparisons for effective decision-making before merging.
Branching the Filtered Product Structure
You can filter product structures using the advanced filter, based on criteria such as attribute, product configuration, other. This allows you to display relevant structures of the product and focus on them.
Starting from the R2025x GA release, you can now also create a branch from such filtered product structure to initiate an isolated design study. In the Branch dialog box, you can use the Advance Branch option to Branch/Reuse/Exclude specific products while branching.
If needed, you can create multiple branches, allowing you to conduct concurrent studies independently, avoid conflicts, and save time. For better decision-making, the Compare app allows you to quickly compare a branch with its source (that is the filtered product structure, in this case).
Notes:
- The Revision Graph now displays a unique visual indicator to help you easily identify branches created on the filtered product structure.
- For these branches, the Compare with Branch Origin command is now available in the context menu, enabling quick and convenient comparison with source (Filtered Product structure).
Once a specific branch is selected as the best option, you can use the New Revision From command to merge the selected branch into a new revision of the production branch.
