How to expand off another Maker's model and make mine available

Why should I allow others to download and edit my model?

The beauty of being in a community of Makers is exactly that: the community. Because we are all creative people, we are constantly being inspired by the things around us, including what we see online. By allowing other Makers to download your model, you are bestowing creative liberty onto the rest of the community and encouraging this environment to flourish!

Download a 3DXML from Swym Workflow:

  1. Within the MAKERS | Made In 3D community, filter on Media and enter the Gallery
  2. Using the 6W tagger, filter for media in 3D model format
  3. Scroll through the gallery until you find a model you like. Use additional tags as needed to search for models from your favorite Makers!
  4. Select the model you want to download so it opens in the 3Dplay media viewer
  5. Download the model
    1. If the download button does not exist, it is because the Maker has disabled downloads on that model. Start a conversation with them or leave a comment asking the Maker to make the model available, or choose a different model.
  6. Import the model into your preferred Maker modelling software (xDesign, xShape, or SOLIDWORKS Connected)
  7. Customize until your heart is content, then publish to HomeByMe to see your customized design. Because we are a friendly community, please credit the original Maker in your description by @'ing them.

Alternatively, you can download a model directly from a Swym post. You can navigate to a post and select the drop down arrow in the top right corner of the embedded media. Choose the download option, and you're done! Once again, if the download button does not exist, that is because the person who posted has disabled others from downloading that particular media.

Make my model available for download Workflow:

  1.  Have a published model and navigate to it in Swym
  2. If you are in a post, select the drop down arrow and choose "Go to this media". If you find your model through the gallery, just click on it.
  3. Once the media viewer opens with your model, choose the edit icon (pencil) from the top of the window
  4. Check the box for "Authorize original file download"
  5. Select "Publish" from the top right corner of the widget
