Question

Answer

1

Slide 9: you mentioned that MBOM also defines "Assembly and production" and in the annotation on slide 9 you also mention that "How parts are assembled" and "work instructions" are placed in there. - but this is something that requires the App "process management" (sorry I've forgotten the exact role/trigram) - am I right?

- Manufacturing Items Management (MFN) for MBOM creation

- Manufacturing Process Management (MGA) for Process creation and their work instructions (Procedure)

- Work Instructions Creator (WIR) for 3D Work Instructions (3D illustration)

Can I create an SBOM without an MBOM?

This question was answered live. Please review the replay.

3

What tools does 3DEXPERIENCE provide to facilitate engagement of the MFN and SIE staff during the design phase for evaluation by XEN staff prior to release?

According to the table that was presented during the webinar (See below):

The categories (left) in blue and gray: support Manufacturing

The categories (left) in blue and green: support service

Using the PPL (Manufacturing Item Definition) trigraph, I have a question regarding the reuse of manufacturing structures.

In scenarios where we work with standardized projects, is it possible to reuse existing manufacturing structures in new projects, avoiding the need to recreate the entire manufacturing structure for each new development?

If so, what is the recommended feature or capability within the solution, and what is the recommended workflow to reuse these manufacturing structures while maintaining the existing links and manufacturing processes that have already been defined?

Create and Update Manufacturing structure allows reuse from previous project.

6

Could you use a portion of the MBOM or Mfg Process Plan to define the SBOM or Service Process Plan to save time, since the assembly steps already defined in the MBOM (but in reverse) could be exactly what you need in the SBOM or Service Work Plan?  Is that possible or desirable so you didn’t need to start from scratch from EBOM?  Thank you.

This question was answered live. Please review the replay.

7

Does the S-BOM also contain parts that represent manufacturing or assembly CM services? For example, consider an instance where we pay a manufacturer a service fee to assemble our product, we would need a part number to transact that on a PO. Where would that "service" part exist?

Intermediate Manufacturing item without Engineering definition can be used in service procurabillity items. This is proposed in one of the next releases.

8

Hello, please, can you compare Make or Buy vs Manufacturable/Procurable?

This question was answered live. Please review the replay.

9

slide 19 (video): we could clearly see, that the instance-number is important for MBOM's and SBOM's (of course). Is there a way to automatically publish a unique "instance number" for a whole product strcuture (only for products that are "manufaturable/procurable" of course)?

You can use an admin setting to enable a unique EIN on a product/part.
10

Is manufacturing/ procurable boolean a reference or instance info. i mean can it be true in one parent and false within another?

This question was answered live. Please review the replay.

11

Slide 26: In order to define a "manufacturing/procureable" object, you do not even need XEN because the"manufacturing/procureable" setting can also be set inside the CAD session (Collaborative Designer for SolidWorks UES-OC) - do you agree?

Yes, this attribute is available on the physical product in CAD (at least in SOLIDWORKS)

12

For the purchase part, is there a way I can define buy status, such as Consigned buy/Directed Buy/Supplier Buy/Off the Shelf/Phantom, etc., in my EBOM?

This question was answered live. Please review the replay.

13

Is there a simplified orchestration using only CA or the CHG role is mandatory?

This question was answered live. Please review the replay.

14

Can different EIN be assigned for 2 manufacturing items scoped linked with same Engineering part. 2 Manufacturing items are used in 2 different manufacturing plants.

This question was answered live. Please review the replay.

15

Why do we need a EIN if we have everything initially created and managed in the platform? Is this not really a control number for legacy compatibility across systems outside the platform?

EIN is the 3DEXPERIENCE implementation of the industrial part number. It could be exchanged with other systems like ERP. It could have a company specific meaning & format or have a industrial meaning or format (like in aerospace industry for standard parts).

The EIN is not a control number for legacy compatibility across systems outside the platform. It is required in order to identify the part/assembly in the organization. It could be available in legacy systems, but if your EBOM is managed in the platform it should be available on the EBOM.

16

Is Data Model Customization for the EIN available in the cloud?

The app Data Model Customization is not available on the cloud. You can use the app “Data Setup” which is available on the cloud.

17

Engineering item and the linked Manufacturing Item may have different EIN? For instance, if I manage a unique geometry (neutral) with several customization at manufacturing level.

This question was answered live. Please review the replay.

18

Is there any difference between alternates and substitutes?

This question was answered live. Please review the replay.

19

I have the same physical products listed twice in my EBOM. Since these are electronic components (LRUs), I’m now trying to figure out how to manage the software updates or software versions for them. Do you have an example of how to do this?

Software updates can be managed through the ENOVIA role “Connected Software Engineer’ (XSF).  This role provides the ability to manage software source code and build artifacts in a multi-discipline product structure for traceability and governance. The role delivers the ability to govern software in context of a multi-discipline product. When used with respective connecters, software engineers can reference software content managed in external SCM tools (e.g. GIT or DesignSync) into the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

20

What about Software BOM?

This question was answered live. Please review the replay.

21

Do we now have functionality to reuse mBOM assemblies that are not scoped with children scoped items?

See answer above (7)

22

Can I create a Parts Catalog with SBOM and deliver it to the customer?

Spare Parts Illustrator (SRI) is based on SBOM (SIE)  and it delivers with SVG format (Vector image) for customer purpose.

23

Are you able to manage a 150% SBOM?

SBOM as other structures - EBOM/MBOM - can be managed in 150% context

24

How are configurations of EBOM, MBOM, and SBOM managed? Via product line? Model? Model Version? If yes, can we still change the maturity states of the Configured object?

According to industries, Model Versions allows configuration management with its own lifecycle on the Model version. As such, maturity is not managed on the level of the configured item but on the model version.

25

Can you also set service times for when certain services need to be performed?

Service process / Maintenance Task allows to define time duration and time limit for periodic or aperiodic definition
26

Can you speak to how this tool integrates with the native SOLIDWORKS drawing BOM and SIEMENS Teamcenter? Also, what are the EBOM/MBOM export options?

Export: you can export the EBOM from the engineering definition (managed in the Engineering release app).

You can export the MBOM from the engineering definition.

From SOLIDWORKS you have access to the physical product definition where you can review attributes such as 'Manufacturable/Procurable".

27

I work with products and lists for internal production in the company. I usually use CATIA to define the EBOM/MBOM. More simply, I believe—at what point would it make sense to migrate to ENOVIA? Maybe I don’t fully understand the differences

ENOVIA applications will allow you to fully manage your EBOM and integrate it with Manufacturing and Service (from DELMIA).

The purpose of CATIA is to design your products in 3D and later these designs will be managed in ENOVIA to prepare the product for other domains: manufacturing, sourcing, service etc. ENOVIA is the place where you can manage issues, changes, configurations and more. For more information, please review the ENOVIA User Community (posts/webinars etc).

28

Is it possible to restrict service parts to only certain customers?

Configuration management can manage the restriction of a specific service part instance.

29

On MBOM, if you decide that an alternate will be the primary to procure because it’s cheaper or you have inventory, is there a way to do a replace of the 3D to have the alt as the primary for the process planning, or does EBOM need to have this to see reflected in the 3D?

In context of Alternate coming a primary manufacturing item, it is instantiated in structure in order to drive a consistent configuration to be manufactured. Manufacturing resulting product can be used if this item is not included in EBOM structure. Consequently, 3D is right.

30

Are these capabilities also available on 26x on-prem currently?

These capabilities mentioned in the webinar are available in 26x on premise (either GA or FDx).

31

In scenarios where we work with standardized projects, is it possible to reuse existing manufacturing structures in new projects, avoiding the need to recreate the entire manufacturing structure for each new development?

 See answer above (5).

32

Can multiple SBOMs be generated from a single EBOM?

This capability is available.

33

The work instructions creator required the MBOM definition and process definition applied to the components to be used? Or can it also be used starting from the ENGINEERING item?

Work instruction creator (WIR) is based on manufacturing process definition (MGA) with MBOM definition (MFN).

34

Can you still track both Engineering Item EIN and Manufacturing Item EIN at the MBOM level? For a Raw Material, I would want to see the total amount of the bulk material being used, but would also want to see the total number of a specific Made From instance.

Yes: in MFN, you can see both EIN for Engineering item and for Manufacturing Item: being the same or different. For Raw material: Yes XEN allows you to compute the total quantity or a specific one.
