When I open Draftsight and load a drawing of my own or a tutorial drawing, all I get is a black screen.  If I enter "select all" I can see the drawing in hidden lines with the 'handles' but as soon as I de-select it the screen returns to black.

I have tried to set the model background element to any other color but black is all I get.

What am I missing?
