Activation Problem

I have downloaded and successfully installed DraftSight. However, I cannot seem to activate it. I enter my e-mail address twice and click activate. What happens is that DraftSight sits and does nothing for roughly five minutes before opening the drawing window. I do not get any error message (or any other message for that matter). When I close DraftSight and restart it, I am prompted to activate it again. I have checked the activation guide PDF that was posted in other threads, but it does not seem to contain this scenario.

One option that I do not have is to go to my IT department and have something unblocked. Are there any other alternatives for activation?

Update: I was able to get a member of IT to give me an unblocked access.  However, DraftSight still does the same thing (giving indication that I'm not activated).  I have shut down other tasks and tried it, but still cannot get it activated and there are no error messages stating why.  I also never received any confirmation e-mail either.

Update #2: If I click on the "Activate Later" button, then DraftSight will start running right away rather than be locked up for five minutes.  This suggests that there is some sort of communication problem between the application and the server responsible for activation.  However, as I indicated in my last update, I ran on a connection that didn't have anything blocked and activation didn't work, so I don't know what the problem is (due to no error messages).

Update to Jason Z's answer below:

Thanks for the response, Jason. I have tried your suggestions:

1) There is no e-mail in my junk folder sent to my company e-mail address.

2) I also tried my personal e-mail address. The same thing happened where the DraftSight splash screen stayed up for about five minutes. After that, it disappeared and the drawing environment displayed. However, when I checked my personal e-mail, I did not see any confirmation. Also, when I closed and restarted DraftSight, it once again prompted me to activate. At no point, during the whole process, were there any error messages displayed.

Does anyone have other suggestions to try?

Update to Levi F's suggestion (contained as a comment to the answer below):

When I put Windows into Safe Mode with Networking and tried to Activate DraftSight, it worked.  I did get a "success" message within a few seconds after clicking "Activate".  So, something within my computer was most likely blocking my activation attempts under normal boot (though it troubles me as to what it could be).  This suggestion is something that should be placed in the Activation troubleshooting document as a suggestion for something to try.  Thanks, Levi!
