Global aviation industry produces around 2% of all human induced CO2 emission. And 12% from all transport resources. So, there is a need for an aircraft with higher fuel economy without compromising the performance and operation.
This project tries to address an idea towards reduction of the drag and other spatial hindrance related factors faced by any aerial vehicle in the flight atmosphere. The concept of morphing implementation is as straight forward as it can be , the project milestones are headed majorly towards evolution of conventional static flip flop type operational trailing edge of a wing into elastically functional trailing edge which is originally inspired from Friswell and Woods proposed concept called FishBAC (fish bone active camber) aerofoil, in which a small section of trailing edge would behave like the skeleton of a fish. We plan to keep the trailing edges actuation in loop with servo control motors linked with aluminium guide wires and keep the whole control with a focused sole interface like Arduino or appropriate PLC (programmable logic controller).
Experimentally iterated design and modelling of the prototype model was built on the Solidworks platform, all preliminary design calculations and estimations were drafted and verified with pre-existing literature for acquiring additional insights. Several iterations of FEA (finite element analysis ) were conducted on the prototype design to exclusively determine mechanical and thermodynamic properties , the design was respectively iterated and validated at each step with extensive literature and results acquired from FEA analysis Currently the team is working on validating the design from CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics ) front to commercially observe the trend of variation in specific parameters like drag and lift .
We would like to establish the intention and drive of the team which led to working on this project, we started with achieving a domino effect by increasing the functional efficiency of the aircrafts , we believe by that we can evidently reduce a significant factor of fuel consumption by that we can see an effect in reduce of Carbon emission in the atmosphere and see a positive impact on climate control.
