Sharing the result of a first-of-its-kind study within the aerospace industry and a continuation of over a decade’s work by members of our Fluids and Development Teams.
This study, leveraging our Fluids solver PowerFLOW, represents an effort towards solver validation against experimental aerodynamic datasets as well as a first look at potential noise sources from the Transonic Truss-Braced Wing aircraft in landing configuration. To date, there does not exist a reference dataset in industry for the acoustic signature of this unique design. Our work, in conjunction with NASA, will help provide industry a baseline understanding of this design’s noise level as well as guidance for regulatory agencies in considering future certification activities.
While this effort, part 1 of a 2 part study, was focused on aerodynamic validations and first-look acoustics, we are actively continuing the effort towards full-scale acoustic analysis of this aircraft. Stay tuned for more!
Results were presented this past summer at AIAA 2024, full paper can be found: https://arc.aiaa.org/doi/10.2514/6.2024-3058
