Numerical Investigation of Cyclorotor Noise Using PowerFLOW | Student Poster | EuroCentral RUM 2025

Overview

Cyclorotors are a unique type of propeller capable of rapid, 360-degree thrust vectoring. This makes them particularly well-suited for urban air mobility (UAM) application - such as flying cars. In these contexts, noise is a major concern; after all, no one wants to be woken up by their neighbour landing his vehicle at night.

Cyclorotors are theorized to be quieter than conventional propellers. However, there is currently very limited research on their acoustic characteristics. In this project, we will carry out the first high-fidelity simulation of cyclorotor noise, using SIMULIA PowerFLOW.
