The new release of CST Studio Suite 2026 brings with it many enhancements for the Non-parametric Optimization workflow. In this demonstration, we use a Septum Polarizer to illustrate the potential of a true “non-parametric” shape optimizer. We propose a piecewise approach to find the best performance from this compact smooth-wall waveguide, suited for additive manufacturing.
Advantages:
✓ No special functions required to describe the tapering profiles.
✓ No parametric control points needed on curved surfaces.
✓ The adjoint sensitivity formulation allows for convergence in only a few iterations (less than 20 full-wave simulations required in each step).
✓ The new shape reconstruction (preview feature) enables follow-up optimization and modelling.
