What is CATIA V5 Component?
CATIA V5 component is the new Simulia developed component in Isight 5.7, that can interact with CATIA V5 software to open CATIA models, update the model, read output parameters from the updated CATIA model and save the updated model. It can also export the updated model to various other formats including IGS, STP, STL, 3DXML etc.
Can I use all versions of CATIA V5?
This component can interact with the following versions :
- CATIA V5 R18
- CATIA V5 R19
- CATIA V5 R20
- CATIA V5 R21
- CATIA V5 R22
What I require to use this component?
You will require :
- Isight 5.7 or later
- An Environment File, which is a text file that contains information on the various paths of the CATIA V5 installation. If you have a local installation, this file is usually found at "C:\\ProgramData\\DassaultSystemes\\CATEnv". If you donot have local installation or if you don't find the file, contact your administrator.
- The path to CATIA V5 exectuable, CATSTART.exe
- CATIA V5 Version
These can be set in the execution tab of the CATIA V5 component editor or set using environment variables, like shown below :
How do I use this component?
The usage of this component is best explained through an example. In the example, a CATIA V5 winglet model shown below is used.The goal of the example is to use Isight to modify an input parameter in Catia, update the model and measure the updated outputs from CATIA. The input to the component is a parameter called WIDTH, which is the width of a profile in CATA Model. This is actually an user-defined parameter in CATIA and is associated with a sketch dimension of the profile. The output is the summation of the areas A1.. A6. ( A6 is not shown ).
After setting up the execution options in the component editor, the CATIA part file should be selected in the parameters tab. Then Isight will automatically parse the file to read outthese parameters, much like the Abaqus component.
in the list of parameters shown, the WIDTH and 6 areas need to be selected. An epilogue script is used to add these 6 areas to form one single Area parameter.
Remember....
CATIA V5 component in Isight 5.7 does unit conversion, e,g, it converts all the length untis from CATIA to m, when reading into Isight. In Isight 5.8, this component is units agnostic.
