Generate Master Curve from DMA test data

New functionally has been added to the calibration app in the 3DExperience platform allowing the user to generate a master curve from DMA test data across various temperatures.   A typical set of test data is shown above. This new feature will be available in Feb, 2023 with the release of R2023x FD01.   This workflow, with a target material model of Hyper-Prony-TRS, was demonstrated several years ago using Excel.  You might want to read this earlier post to better understand the workflow:

Time-Temperature Superposition using DMA test data

The workflow described there can now be performed entirely within the calibration app.

The master curve is created as a new piece of test data.

The shift factors from the master curve creation are then used to calibrate the TRS parameters.

The master curve can then be used to derive a Prony series.

The video below was created on Dec 8, 2022 using a development version of the calibration app that will look very similar to the R2023x FD01 release (Feb 11, 2023).

Some key take-always:

  • After creating the master curve, it is important to get the TRS part correct before dealing with the Prony series.  Remember that the master curve has an associated temperature
  • All of the test data information is accumulated into the master curve, you can base the entire calibration on the master curve data (no need to use the other data).
  • It is important for this case to set the error norm to RSE (Relative Square Error)
  • The Differential Evolution optimizer is good for this case.

This zip file contains two 3dxml files (which will only be readable by R2023x FD01 and later).

Addendum: The video below was created on July 11, 2023.  The 3DExperience public cloud was recently upgraded to R2023x HotFix3.19 ; in that HotFix3 version a few nice enhancements have been added to this particular Master Curve workflow.   It is best to first watch the video above, because this video only touches on these new features.  The new features make the workflow more streamlined and more convenient for the user.

When I was editing the Master Curve, using the test data preprocessing tools (delete data point, smooth, regularize) I was only showing the Storage Modulus on the screen, but the editing actions were applied to both the Storage and Loss moduli.
