A few weeks ago it was announced that Safe Technology was acquired by Dassault Systèmes. Our product fe-safe and it's suite of FEA Fatigue modules has been available as part of the Simulia line-up for some time. To continue to meet our customers, we're spending this RUM season visiting many of the RUM events, starting with the UK RUM last week. This week we spent time in Minneapolis for the Simulia Central RUM. We were joined by our partners from Endurica and Wolf Star Technologies. This combination allowed us to talk about software that enables the process of FEA Fatigue all the way from the strain gauge to the solver to the correlation, for metal or rubber!
Wolf Star Technologies True-Load: Turn measured strain data into meaningful load time history
Susie Ralston and Tim Hunter from Wolf Star Technologies were with us at our exhibition stand talking with the attendees about how to use True-Load to best determine the load histories to apply to your FEA model and calculate the most accurate fatigue. Join the Wolf Star Technologies team in October at the Simulia Great Lakes Michigan RUM.
fe-safe: Durability analysis for Finite Element Models
I presented a 30 minute slideshow communicating fe-safe to the crowd here at Central this afternoon. Our users in many different industries calculate the Durability of our applications because it’s important and fatigue failures are expensive. This is true not only for ground vehicles, but also aerospace and medical applications. Each of these applications has a good reason to avoid early failure that our companies need to avoid. Late changes can add cost and mass to our products, and simulating fatigue allows for these issues to be identified early enough to address in the design phase of our product development. fe-safe has FEA Fatigue for Strain Gauges, metals, seam welds, spot welds, metals at high temperatures, composites, and rubber. Find out more about Developing a Design Process for Durability in November in the Detroit metro area of Michigan!
Endurica: Fatigue and Durability of Rubber
Mainak Sarkar also gave a presentation of our solution for fatigue of Elastomers provided by Endurica and implemented as a plug-in in fe-safe called fe-safe/Rubber. Mainak showed us how easy it is to compare two different elastomer materials for the application of a can bushing with metal assembly. In fact Endurica’s material characterization course is being held in November in Ann Arbor, MI.
Take-away
My favorite part of the RUM was an idea I got about using Isight for elastic-plastic kinematic hardening models in Abaqus. When we model material non-linearity for Fatigue in our FEA solvers, we need to confirm the effective stress-versus-strain response in the model is representative of the test samples, from the local strain-life testing. This material model can be calibrated easily in Abaqus using an Isight loop and the comparator for data matching! Watch this space for an example of calibrating material models for fatigue using Isight with Abaqus and fe-safe. Thanks for your Isight presentation at the Seminar, Shikta Mishra.
