e-Learning: Defeaturing a solid geometry in V6

A SIMULIA e-Learning Resource

Created using SIMULIA V6 R2013

Defeaturing, as the term suggests, is to remove certain modeling features from a solid model. You can choose to defeature a solid model if it contains many modeling abstractions which may not be required for a finite element analysis. Some of these features may include text engravings, part numbers, small holes, fillets, grooves etc. In this video, you will learn how to defeature a solid model with the tools available in V6.

Objectives

The model that is considered for this demonstration has,

-- Part numbers
-- Grooves
-- Counterbores
-- Small holes

The objectives for this exercise is to,

-- Replace the faces of three circular regions
-- Remove the counterbores from three holes
-- Remove 4 small holes
-- Remove the part number
-- Remove grooves and replace the top half of a circular bore with a through hole
