CommScope: Tower Mounted Amplifiers from Synthesis to 3D Realization by Means of CST Studio Suite | RUM 2023 EuroMed Italy

We are pleased to share with you the presentation titled "Tower Mounted Amplifiers from Synthesis to 3D Realization by Means of CST Studio Suite" which Matteo CENDAMO presented at the SIMULIA Regional User Meeting EuroMed — Italy, in Modena on June 20, 2023.

Abstract:

Tower Mounted Amplifiers from Synthesis to 3D Realization by Means of CST Studio Suite

Tower Mounted Amplifiers (TMA), also known as Mast Head Amplifiers (MHA), are devices that maximize radio sensitivity and improve cell coverage and service quality on a base station site, compensating for feeder losses.

In most communication systems, the transceiver output is connected to the antenna by means of a diplexer that allows both the transmitter and receiver to share a single antenna. Often this antenna is located on the top of a tower, and a connection between the antenna and the radio is needed. This connection, even if realized by means of a high-quality transmission line, introduces additional losses that worsen the overall noise figure of the receiving system. A “masthead” combiner can be mounted at the antenna output (on top of the tower) to compensate for this noise figure degradation. This combiner allows to connect a low-noise amplifier at the antenna output while enabling the transmitted power to arrive at the antenna.

In this presentation, we’ll discuss the design of such a device in the case of a single operating band, from the filter’s synthesis to the 3D modeling, realization, tuning and testing by means of CST Studio Suite.

Presenter Biography:

Matteo CENDAMO received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Telecommunication Engineering with a specialization in Radio-Frequency and Microwave from Politecnico di Milano. He is also licensed as a Professional Engineer. Matteo started to use CST Studio Suite, and electromagnetic simulation software in his previous work experience as a Ground Segment Engineer designing antennas and feeds for satellite communication systems. Matteo has been with the CommScope Research and Development department for about four years, where he is in charge of the design of filters, multiplexers, TMAs, and, in general, passive devices operating in the RF/Microwave frequencies.

Matteo CENDAMO is a SIMULIA Champion.
