Abstract:

Simulia Living Heart Human Model (LHHM) is a validated 3D dynamic model of an adult heart that includes physiologically realistic structural and electrical behaviours. In this investigation, the LHHM capabilities will be used to examine the numerical model of the mitral valve and its interaction with blood flow thorugh fluid-structure interaction simulations. This novel simulation methodology can ultimately be used in the future for minimizing the risk of clinical complications by enhancing procedural planning for Mitral Clip surgery.

Harkamaljot (Rocky) Kandail obtained his PhD in 2016 from Imperial College London, UK. Following his PhD, he joined the CVTEC lab at Marquette University, USA in 2016 where he developed a novel pateint-specific body-confroming fluid-structure interaction model for transcatehter aortic valves. He is interested in developing state-of-the-art computer models that can help in elucidating the role structural deformations and hemodynamics play in cardiovascular disease development and progression.
