3DEXPERIENCE Example for Plastic Injection Simulation

A new simulation example, entitled “Two-Shot Plastic Injection Simulation of a Toothbrush,” is available as part of the R2023x FD02 release of the user assistance.

This example demonstrates how to use the Plastic Injection app to simulate the injection molding of a toothbrush that is made from two different materials within the same mold.

In this example, you learn how to:

  • Assign the appropriate domains to the geometries that contribute to the injection molding simulation.
  • Search the plastic materials briefcase for a specific material, and then apply that material to your part.
  • Adjust the Fill, Pack, and Warp simulation settings.
  • Define injection locations.
  • Define a mesh capture order, and then mesh your part.
  • Generate contour plots to review the results of the Fill, Pack, and Warp simulation

To complete the example for yourself, see Two-Shot Injection Molding Simulation of a Toothbrush.

This example was developed with the collaboration of @Duane Sawyer. Duane’s expertise on plastic injection molding processes was instrumental in creating this example. I would also like to thank all of my other colleagues who contributed to its delivery.

The 3DEXPERIENCE Simulation Examples Team would like to hear your ideas for new examples. If you have a workflow idea with an IP-free 3D XML model (if applicable), please leave a comment so the team can contact you. The team also welcomes feedback on any of its existing simulation examples.
