2013 Regional User Meetings - Great Lakes Michigan & Canada

We are pleased to announce that this year's Great Lakes Michigan RUM experienced record attendance at the beautiful Inn at St Johns. The Great Lakes Canada RUM also enjoyed record attendance this year. But the most important part of any RUM is the fantastic presentations provided by both SIMULIA employees and customers alike, so let’s take a look at some of the interesting technical highlights from both events.

Great Lakes Michigan – Technical Highlights

  • Keynote speaker, Randy Frank of Ford Motor Company, presented on the challenges of fuel economy and safety, leading to design optimization.
  • New SIMULIA technologies, TOSCA and fe-safe, were discussed in length by SIMULIA presenters. The use of TOSCA was even highlighted in a customer presentation by Pururawa Mulay of General Motors on TOSCA engine block application.
  • The newest Abaqus and Isight technologies were discussed by SIMULIA R&D Applications Director, Jon Dunn, and an in-depth look into Isight 5.7 and 5.8 was presented by Alex Van der Velden, SIMULIA R&D Technology Director.
  • A rich optimization track was assembled which included an interesting look into the seamless CAD/CAE process in the early vehicle design phase, presented by Hans Zimmer, President and CEO of SFE GmbH.

Great Lakes Canada – Technical Highlights

  • Lingxiao Zheng, SIMULIA Technical Specialist, presented a quick look into increasing capability of multi-physics simulation using SIMULIA products. This topic was presented in greater detail during the previous day’s pre-meeting advanced seminar.
  • Tod Dalrymple, SIMULIA R&D Materials Director introduced fe-safe and advanced material modeling to the attendees, while Paul Jermihov, TOSCA Technical Specialist covered topology and shape optimization with TOSCA.
  • Hari Simha, of CANMETMaterials, presented an interesting look into CANMETMaterials use of Abaqus in multi-scale modeling of metals.

Attached are some of the presentations from the two events, made available for distribution to attendees.

Thanks to our attendees, partners, and employees for making these wonderful events possible. See you next year!
