How to allow local network access in Chrome and Edge to avoid 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher issue?

Hello Makers,

If you are seeing a repeated download prompt for the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher or are unable to open SOLIDWORKS Design (or other desktop-installed apps) from the web 3DCompass, then you may need to allow local network access for the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher within Chrome and Edge.

1.1 - Allow Local network access when launching the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher

  • If you see a popup saying: “Look for and connect to any device on your local network”, then Click “Allow”.
  • If the popup is not displayed, then Click “View site information” (button is to the left of the address bar) and Activate the permission for “Local network access

1.2 - Allow Local network access from the browser's settings

The above instructions enable the permission on a per-site basis.

Alternatively, this permission can also be managed for 3DEXPERIENCE domains through the browser’s settings, as described below.

You can follow these steps in accordance with your organization’s internal security policies, depending on the browser you are using.

In Chrome:

  1. Go to :
    • chrome://settings/content/localNetworkAccess
    • Or navigate manually through : "Menu → Settings → Privacy and Security → Site Settings → Additional Permissions → Local network access")
  2. Under Allowed to connect to any device on your local network, click "Add" and "Enter" :
    • For all Customers (except China - see below) : [*.]3dexperience.3ds.com
    • For Chinese Users : [*.]3dexperience.cn
  3. Refresh your browser and retry launching the application.

In Edge:

  1. Go to :
    • edge://settings/content/localNetworkAccess
    • Or navigate manually through : "Menu → Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Site permissions → Local network access"
  2. Under Allowed to connect to any device on your local network, click "Add" and "Enter" :
    • For all Customers (except China - see below) : [*.]3dexperience.3ds.com
    • For Chinese Users : [*.]3dexperience.cn
  3. Refresh and retry.
