[Enhancements for MAKERS] Choose When to Update SOLIDWORKS

Based on your input in this MAKERS | Support community, we have an enhancement to help you use SOLIDWORKS Connected more smoothly after platform updates. This is for those using 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS for Makers.

Get platform updates while maintaining productivity

Now you have greater control over your SOLIDWORKS app updates. Beginning with R2025x FD04 (https://r1132100503382-eu1-3dswym.3dexperience.3ds.com/community/swym:prd:R1132100503382:community:kKnaKWHGTPC4ut-q1X_9uA?content=swym:prd:R1132100503382:communitypost:tCSFwYxLSPuJbicYq1ctZA), updates for SOLIDWORKS apps will be mandatory only for major releases (e.g. R2026x GA). For minor releases (e.g. R2025x FD04, R2026x FD01), you can decide whether to update to the latest version of SOLIDWORKS apps or continue with the previously installed version. The streamlined process swiftly updates only 3DEXPERIENCE platform components, so you can continue designing with minimum interruption to projects.

Two update paths

For each Functional Delivery (FD) release, the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher will provide two update options:

1. Update 3DEXPERIENCE platform components and SOLIDWORKS Apps

  • Traditional update method.

  • Recommended for those who want to take advantage of latest enhancements for both SOLIDWORKS apps and 3DEXPERIENCE platform components.

2. Update 3DEXPERIENCE platform components only

  • New option which updates only platform components and keeps SOLIDWORKS apps at the previously installed version.

  • Ideal for those who prefer to continue working without updating your SOLIDWORKS apps version.

FAQs

Q1: If I choose “Update 3DEXPERIENCE platform components only,” is it possible to subsequently update my SOLIDWORKS apps before the next FD release?
A: Yes. If you update 3DEXPERIENCE platform components without updating the SOLIDWORKS apps, you can still get the latest version of the SOLIDWORKS apps by uninstalling and reinstalling.

Q2: Does this flexibility apply to major updates such as R2026x GA?
A: No. For major releases, there will be one update path which includes both 3DEXPERIENCE platform components and SOLIDWORKS apps.
