Upcycling Wood Scraps into a Unique and Functional Washbasin

I wanted to share some details about my personal project, which was to create a unique bathroom sink from a piece of ash wood that was lying around in my garage.

I've always enjoyed tinkering and creating things with my own hands, so when my wife suggested replacing our bathroom furniture, I immediately thought about making something truly special. After a short search online, it turned out that most of the offered sinks and bathroom furniture looked very similar, and I wanted to create something truly original.

I noticed that I had a piece of ash wood in my garage that had been waiting for its purpose for a long time. This piece was actually a waste because it was so cracked that there wasn't much to do with it.

I proposed to my wife to make a sink from this piece of wood, but she wasn't immediately convinced of my idea. However, after showing her a few inspirations and assuring her that I could do it, I managed to persuade her.

I designed the first concept in one of the well-known CAD CAM program. However, I decided that the entire project had to be based on Dassault Systèmes tools. Learning the basics of Catia and Delmia took me quite some time. @AG was a HUGE HELP!!! in this regard, as he patiently explained the functions of these programs to me multiple times, over and over. Thanks, Andi!!!

The wood processing was done on a CNC milling machine at FabLab Munich.

Now that the sink's form is ready, all that's left is to seal it with epoxy resin and finish it off with polyurethane clear coat. I hope that the final effect will be satisfying and that the sink will meet our expectations.
