I like to do woodworking projects with my grandkids, and this summer we designed a shelf. We used SOLIDWORKS to come up with the basic design. This was a pretty simple but great project that only took a Saturday to build. The finished project looks great!
We do a lot of woodworking projects, and I love that with SOLIDWORKS, I can design something and create a drawing with a complete cut list! One of the things I like to do is use the weldment feature and make my own custom weldment profiles with the type of wood I use for our projects. Check out this video on how to Create Custom Weldment Profiles in SOLIDWORKS.

Using these concepts, it is super easy to have an accurate cut list when I go to get the materials I need for my projects. This also helps to minimize waste, and it makes it easy for the kids to see exactly how the pieces all go together!
