SOLIDWORKS Routing As a Communication Tool

We all know SOLIDWORKS is a fantastic design tool but it's also a powerful communication tool, especially for me. We recently got a 3D printer that had been converted to open source hardware and the electrical cabinet is quite a birds nest as you can see below!

I have Cerebral Palsy so when it came time to troubleshoot and fix one of the drivers I found myself trying to walk my assistant through rewiring the RAMPS board and drivers. Needless to say, this was very frustrating for both parties! (“You have 3 blue and 4 yellow, where do the go??!!”)

My Solution was to download all the components and use SOLIDWORKS Routing so i could simply say “hook everything up like this”

Important Note: I avoided the need for making a ton of CPoints on the RAMPS board by creating a “breadboard pin” and just inserting pins where I needed wires.

I've also used this method for breadboards
