Sounds like i was making mine this "shadoks" (character of a well-known cartoon in the France of the 60/70's) motto : "Why do they make simple, since they can make complicated ?"

Indeed, a mere spring, around the upper pole-shaft, between the upper rose ball and a plate fixed a little higher along the pole may do the job, like in the video. I gonna have a try as soon as i find a proper spring for my prototype, and will keep you updated with the result
