I fly various remote-controlled model aircraft. The correct center of gravity is essential for a model aircraft. If the center of gravity is not where it should be, the model flies badly or even crashes. For this reason, every RC pilot needs a center of gravity balance. Because my models are getting bigger and heavier, I had to have a more stable center of gravity balance. Instead of buying a ready-made product, I used SOLIDWORKS for Maker to create a design myself for the 3D printer.
After around 24 hours of printing, the new center of gravity scale is ready. The new model has a seesaw with ball bearings, which is precisely balanced with a counterweight. I was able to estimate the size of the counterweight in CAD using the “Mass properties” function.
Due to the height of around 21 cm, the new center of gravity balance is primarily suitable for gliders. In order to be able to weigh motorized models with landing gear later on, I am currently designing extensions for the side supports.
I have published the print files on https://cults3d.com so that other makers can also build my center of gravity scale.
