I spend some of my free time building/painting scale model robots, particularly Gundam. For those wondering what exactly "Gundam" is, it is a Japanese military fiction media franchise featuring giant robots. Most of these robots, commonly referred to as Gundam, are large, bipedal, humanoid robots controlled from a cockpit by a human pilot. And thus my pastime of building these scale robots turned into a lengthy process of trying to recreate it from scratch in our X-Apps.
The model I chose is the classic and highly recognizable RX-78-2 Gundam. I found some reference images and started modeling.
Most of the head was done in xDesign. The rounded portions of the helmet were done in xShape to make easy changes and to align to other parts of the helmet with some simple push and pulls of the sub-d body. The neck connection between the head and the shoulders was also done in xShape. The cowl and inner mechanisms of the chest/shoulders were all done in xDesign.
I tried to include as much detail as possible. Like with other projects, I think the small details really make the model come to life. This included panel lines, bolts, hoses, clear parts, gears, etc.
After adding materials, the only thing left was to create some renders. Other than the decals (which I know really add a sense of realism) this model is complete. If I have time, I will come back and model them in.
I hope that you all enjoy!
