Reverse Engineering for AR Experience

Best in class AR engines are more and more labeledmarkerless”. In fact the proper term is more Model-Based-tracking, that is, recognition of the referential relying on a comparison between a viewed item and its virtual model.

This approach is opening interesting perspectives, e.g. : no need pre-deployment of AR marker, hence no need for a before-hand knowledge of the actual location of the item to track. The drawback is that possibly, one does not have an existing virtual reference of the item to track. The solution is reverse engineering 3D model creation out of a lasercan.

This was the case for the industrial proof of concept we have developed for the WNE (http://www.world-nuclear-exhibition.com/ ).

The FabLab Velizy made it possible thanks to:

-         The initial laserscan from which we redesigned the valve

-         The printing of the 2 tiny support

More in detail, see below the full demo production  workflow that goes through several Dassault Systèmes solutions up to the Composer plugin and AR player developed by Diota.
