P1 vs. Hypershock - a SolidWorks designed BattleBot Battle!

Well there it is, isn't it. We had assumed we'd get Hypershock for our third fight of the regular season, due to being asked about it in our Jager post-fight interview. We got Ribbot instead, and it was a great fight, but nobody was shocked when we saw our name next to Hypershock on the bracket. I could make small gripes about seeding, but in the end all that really matters is that you get a shot at the nut. There's no gimmies anywhere in the bracket in the Ro32, especially this year with the slew of top teams not getting a third fight. That stinks big time and is something that needs to change for future seasons.

Our split wedge had been wrecked against Ribbot, and instead of trying to piece it back together, we decided to go with the classic "Full-Frontal" wedge. Why no long forks, you ask? For one, we had nothing longer than what Hypershock had. For another, with long forks we can no longer self-right the robot- something that obviously came in clutch in this fight. We decided to not impede our driving and just go pure phat front hinge to control the fight.

The strategy? Invert Hypershock and win ugly. Hypershock may have been the 2019 KC Chiefs, but we wanted to turn the fight into the 1921 Army/Navy game. Control the clock and take advantage every opportunity we are given.

The fight went as well as we could have dreamed of. We took two big hits, but they did little more than tweak the wedge a bit and we kept functionality of drive & weapon. Meanwhile, during a self-right, we were able to invert Hypershock and keep them on their heads for over half the fight, including putting them on the shelf. We took the UJD after a gritty battle and sat back to watch Sawblaze/Hijinx.

This was truly an unreal moment for us. 2018 and 2019 we went 0-2. We went from a Jurassic Park commercial to beating Hypershock! Anything is possible! For now, though, I gotta put on my Bill Belichick face and say: "We're on to SawBlaze". The crazy thing now is that every fight in the playoffs is the biggest fight of our lives.
