LightIn3D Contest: LED pendant lamp

The lamp shade of this pendant is 3D printed from translucent ABS. It uses a circular LED flexible strip (e.g. OSRAM LINEARlight FLEX) running around the circumference on the inside. The driver electronics is located inside the baldachin.

The demand of the contest for creating a shadow pattern may make the 3D printing task more interesting, but in a real life situation it might be irritating. With a point or linear light source it would create a hard shadow (as shown in the rendering). But with the strip light with 40 to 120 led modules per meter - depending on specification and desired light output - there will be only a soft and superimposed shadow pattern as shown in the lastrendering (with the yellow wall)

The design was modelled and rendered with my favourite software: formZ from autodessys, which uses a geometry engine from DDS spatial (ACIS) and produces STL files for 3D printing.
