I am Groot! (Happy Earth Day!)

In celebration of Earth Day, Chinloo and I upcycled old hardwood flooring to design and make a Guardians of the Galaxy inspired box to store all of the seeds we use in our garden each year.

This very special project gives us great pride as it honors seeds that germinated ~100 years ago. Those seeds grew into the oak trees that were harvested to produce the flooring in our home, and instead of tossing the worn out flooring into a dumpster when we renovated our floors, we saved the wood for a future project. It made total sense that we use it here to create an object that protects other seeds!

It wasn't easy, or quick to transform the flooring from it's old state into a usable one. We hammered and scraped and sanded to remove all the nails and dirt and rocks from these beautiful boards. Then we cut and planed them down into rectangular stock that had wonderful character.

We used xDesign to model the project and a collection of woodworking tools to bring it to life.

Feel free to grab the 3DXML of the design above and tweak it to make it your own!
