DIY Trophy

Hello everyone,

Today is my last day of apprenticeship at the Roles Portfolio department, specifically in the CATIA Design team on Reverse applications. @LI @XM

The next destination is DSKK for an internship ! @TU @CB

To thank my French team for their teaching and my future Japanese team for their hospitality, I decided to offer a DIY trophy with the collaboration of 3DExperience Lab.

- Step 1 : Design >> I searched a lot on Internet for inspiration, and after several sketches on paper, I obtained a cool one. The big spline on the top refers to our curves networks in reverse engineering. The compass is like a ball following the flow. I choose plexiglass for the plate because it was the prettiest, and wood for the stand because I wanted a solid base and the difference of material between the top and the bottom was visually better. Stacking 4 wooden boards is more stable and globally, it elevates the plate like a pyramid.

- Step 2 : Modeling >> Using the app Generative Shape Design, I traced the contours of the vertical plate and the horizontal stand. Then with the app Natural Sketch, I imported images of logos and drew them manually with GSD. Finally, I produced a technical drawing with the app Drafting. @SR helped me for the preparation of my files before the next steps such as connecting all points.

- Step 3 : Laser cutting >> With the Glowforge printer, @CC helped me to cut the plexiglass (5mm of thickness) for the plate and the medium wood (3.15-3.20mm of thickness) for the stand.

- Step 4 : Laser engraving >> To finish the plate part, still with the Glowforge printer, we engraved all the logos on the plexiglass plate in mirrored view. Thus, the front face of the trophy is smooth and the engraved face is behind. It is esthetically superior.

- Step 5 : Assembling >> To make the stand part, we glued the 4 wooden boards with a super glue and let them dry with clamps. It is more lasting with this architecture. Lastly, we inserted the plate in the stand. Congrats, the trophy is done !

- Step 6 : Surprise, photo shooting and communication >> My French team was very happy and discovered the high quality of laser cutting/engraving machine. I took many pictures for sharing to different social media platforms.

- Step 7 : Special credits for 3DExperience Lab >> Thank you for this opportunity !

Thanks @NA for the interview.

Thanks for your reading,

Have a nice day !
