As a new user of SolidWorks, I recently completed my first 3D modeling design using xDesign - and let me tell you, it was really a smooth and exciting journey ! Whether you're a fellow designer or someone curious about the world of 3D modeling, I wanted to share a little behind-the-scenes of how this project was overall a new learning experience for me!
🚀 The Idea
For my first project, I decided to start with a simple and elegant design of a “Boat toy” which works on the rubber band mechanism. My goal was to create something simple but functional for my kid, which would also help me understand SolidWorks' basic tools and features to start with.
💡 Modeling in xDesign
It was time to turn that 2D sketch into a 3D object! Here's how I approached the project:
- Started with a base sketch on the Plane: I drew the essential shape using lines and curves, then extruded it into 3D using the Extrude feature.
- Added functional features: I needed precise cut-outs and holes, so I used the Extrude cut tool to remove material where necessary.
- Refined the design: To smooth out edges, I applied fillets to give the model a clean and smooth edges.
- Finally learning to create the Mechanism and rendering in xStudio was enjoying part of the after-design process.
👩💻 What’s Next?
This is just the beginning of my 3D modeling journey, and I’m excited to give a try on more projects in future. Exploring new features like assemblies and simulations to experimenting with different materials, there’s so much more to learn and create.
If you’re just a new comer like me with no Mechanical background, I highly recommend diving into SolidWorks xDesign - it’s a fun, challenging way to bring your ideas to life.
