Hi everyone!
As somebody that like to make and build stuff, I picked up woodworking as a hobby when I moved state side more than 10 years ago.
And I quickly realized drawing on a piece of paper was not going to cut it.
So, I have been using SOLIDWORKS for ALL my woodworking projects ever since ... and more recently 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS for MAKERS.
Being able to "play" with the space, try different ideas, and iterate - all in 3D - is just invaluable when doing woodworking. Also, 3D is really the only way to communicate your ideas and vision to other people or in this case your spouse. Once the design is finalized, I usually do a 2D Drawing to do a complete Bill of Materials (BOMs) and also optimize my cuts to use as little material as possible.
And when it gets time to start cutting, gluing, and nailing things together I no longer need to bring my laptop to the workshop. My model is stored in the 3DEXPERIENCE on the cloud so I can review my design and check some measurements, all this directly on my phone or tablet.
One more fun fact: I may have used some of our structural simulation software to calculate the adequate cross-section of the cold rolled steel beam/plate used inside the bench. The goal was to eliminate a post/support in the middle of the bench :)
So... any woodworker out there using 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS for MAKERS?
Matt
