FAQ:

Information about the 3D scanner can be found here: http://www.nextengine.com/faq

1. How large an object can I scan?

Answer: There is no preset size limit. Unlike some other systems, you don't put your object inside the scanner, and the object does not spin around while it is being scanned. This means the scanner can measure a stationary object sitting in front of it. You make a complete object model by combining shots of each facet, each captured from different points of view of your object. Each shot captures an area of your object equal to the field of view. The Macro field is 5.1" x 3.8", and the Wide field is 13.5" x 10.1". HD PRO extends the field to 22.5" x 16.75" at a distance of 30". You combine the facets with NextEngine's ScanStudio software on the FabLab laptop, by placing virtual beads on the same spot in two different views. The software infers the relationship between multiple facets and puts them together in a few seconds. When using the AutoDrive or MultiDrive, alignment is automatic.

2. What file formats does it export?

Answer: Native Formats are SCN, NZIP while Mesh File Outputs are STL, PLY, XYZ, VRML, OBJ, JPG, Textures

3. How long does it take to scan?

Answer: Each captured view takes about 2 minutes. For some applications, a single view is all you need. For a complete model of your object, let the AutoPositioner capture it from multiple views. A typical object can be fully captured in as little as 12 views.
