3D Printing in Michigan Schools

I've had the privilege of judging at the Michigan Industrial and Technological Education Society, MITES, for the past 22 years.  Within the past 3 years, 3D printing has been added as a judged category.  Students can now design in 3D software, than see their creations come to life from 3D printing.  The models consist of single components all the way up to assemblies with motion.  Here are a few examples from the regional competition held on May 9th.  Places 1 – 4 go to the State competition.

Projects are not limited to Mechanical Drawings, but a whole host of vocational skills.  Including, but not limited to Wood Working, Machine Shop, Graphic Arts, and Architectural Drawing.  There are 14 judged categories in all.
