3D Printing experience by Alice, Lily and Benjamin, 14 year old interns at DS

Alice Ribet, Lily Bonner and Benjamin Chambaudet spent last week in an internship at DS, discovering the working world. They explored many aspects of our company. Here's a sample of what they did in 3D design and 3D printing:

This internship is required by the french school system for all 14 year olds. It can be done in any professional setting, public or private sector. Alice, Lily and Benjamin chose to do it in their parent's company, Dassault Systèmes. The 3D designs you see here were created from scratch with the 3DEXPERIENCE rich client running the CATIA app. When we say from scratch, it means really from nothing - they started from a blank windows screen, ran through the configuration steps of starting the program on their laptops, before even getting into the 3D design! And when we finally did get to the 3D design workbench, Imagine & Shape, the interns had to start out from a blank, empty 3D space.

For the 3D Printing part, we had support from Guillaume Borycky of the FABLAB (thanks Guillaume!) on our first print run -the spacecraft- and then we were on our own to print two copies of birdman, so in the end there was one 3D printed object to take home for each of the interns. All prints were done on a Cubify Cube second generation printer. The spacecraft took 4 hours to print and the birdman 2 hours.

We will let you guess from the images which is the spacecraft and which is birdman...
