Useful R2025x FD01 Enhancements for the Product Manager Role

Introduction

Model Definition app helps Product Managers in seamlessly managing the definition of products with the high variability, complex set of configuration rules and product configurations representing specific product offerings.

However, as the variability count increases, the time required to accurately define the product configuration also increases proportionally.

This blog explains two enhancements delivered in the R2025x FD01 release that help in reducing time required for accurately defining and validating the product configurations.

Enhancement 1: Using Option Groups in the Expression Rules

Before this enhancement, it was required to manually add all the options while defining Expression Rules. This meant that every time a new option was added to an Option Group, you had to update all the Expression Rules where it was used. This process was not only tedious but also prone to errors when dealing with large and complex Option Groups.

With this enhancement, you can now directly insert the Option Groups into your Expression Rules. This means, if there’s an update i.e. addition/removal of Option in the Option Group, it is no more necessary to manually update any impacted Expression Rules.

Additionally, you can also combine Option Groups & Numerical Parameters while defining Expression Rules.

Enhancement 2: Verifying the Validity of Product Configurations

Updating configuration rules or creating new rules can impact existing product configurations by making them invalid. Before this enhancement, there was no way to identify such invalid configurations without opening each one individually and verifying the validly status.

With this enhancement, a new “Is Valid” column is added in the Product Configurations page that provides a visual cue about validity (Valid/Invalid) of each Product Configuration. This saves time as it helps you to quickly identify and open invalid product configurations to tweak the incorrect variability selection, thus saving time.

Moreover, the Model Definition app can now help you in maintaining the product configuration integrity by preventing the removal of variant values when it is selected in the product configurations. When you try to remove such variant values, an error message is displayed indicating that the selected value is being used in the Product Configuration.
