Introduction
The 3DDashboard provides the platform user an environment in which they organize all their apps into multiple tabs and dashboards. Since an app can be added to more than one tab and dashboard, a single app may be available to the user in many different places in their environment. Subsequently, the ability to control the default settings for any particular app can be challenging, not only for the user but also for the administrator who sets the working standards across all apps for all users.
To address this issue, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform has a multi-tiered system for controlling the default settings using ‘preferences’ available per app on the platform.
Objective
The overall objective for preference management is:
• Manage the default preferences of all apps across all users and control the users ability to alter the preferences
• Provide the platform user with the ability to manage all usage across multiple dashboards and tabs as well as distinct default preferences for each instant of an app in a specific tab.
As administrator
You can use the MePreferences Control Center to manage a number of apps deployed on the platform with more apps being added over subsequent releases. As you can see below, the administrator can select and set preferences specific to each of the listed apps on the left.
Note that the administrator has a unique ability over the user, as they can lock a preference so that a user may not change it within their environment. This is controlled by selecting the locking icon and toggling the status if desired.
As a user
There are multiple tools available to manage preferences locally. Like the administrator, the user is presented with a similar control application for preferences with the exception of the locks. This allows the user to set and override, where allowed (setting not being ‘locked’), the values of any preference set by the administrator. This app is available within the main menu bar of the app, as illustrated below.
Beyond the user settings above that address all instances of an app, a localized setting panel within the app allows for the modifiable preferences to be set distinctly in the app instance. This is accessible directly from the Toolbar under the Preferences icon as shown below.
Here is an example of how these various controls over the app preference are managed and interact between the administrator and the users:
