Task types available in the ‘Collaborative Tasks” app

Collaborative Tasks is a Dashboard application that provides an intuitive user experience for task management. It lists, in a single view, various types of tasks originated from various sources.

In this post, I will explain the different types of tasks that are available in Collaborative Tasks application, and what is the role of the Context field, when creating new tasks.

Context

The context is a property on a task and you can use it to organize and group tasks.
You can set the context of a task to a part, a document, a requirement, an issue, a project and more.
Then, you can use the context area to filter the list and display only tasks having that object context.

In general, there are two ways to set the task’s context:

  1.  After creating the task, open the task’s information panel and set the context in the task’s properties tab
  2. Set first the context in Collaborative Tasks context area, and then create a task -> the task will be created in that particular context

How to create and differentiate between different types of tasks in Collaborative Tasks application:

Simple Task

A simple task is a task with or without a context.

The following video illustrates two options for creating a simple task in a context of a document in Collaborative Tasks app:

Project Management Task

A Project Management task is associated with a project created in the Project Management app (available in the role Project Manager (DPM)).
Any Project Management task that is created in Collaborative Tasks application, is also available in the Project Management app.

The following video illustrates how to create a Project Management task in Collaborative Tasks app:

Project Planning Task

A ‘Project Planning’ task is associated with a project created in the ‘Project Planning’ application available in the role “Project Planner (XPP-OC).
‘Project Planning’ tasks are more detailed than simple tasks. Any ‘Project Planning’ task you create in ‘Collaborative Tasks’ app is available to the ‘Project Planning’ app.

The following video illustrates how to create a Project Planning task in ‘Collaborative Tasks’ app

Note:

For ‘Project Planning’ task, only one option is demonstrated in the video, because unlike ‘Project Management’ task, you cannot change a simple task to a ‘Project Planning’ task by setting the context after creating the task.

Standalone Task

A standalone task has the same fields as tasks created in the ‘Project Planning’ app except that the Parent field is empty.
It can later be assigned to a ‘Project Planning’ project and be available in the ‘Project Planning’ app.

The following video illustrates how to create a Standalone task in ‘Collaborative Tasks’ app and later associate it to ‘Project Planning’ project:

WeDo Task

WeDo tasks created in SWYM appear in Collaborative Tasks application.
You can view only WeDo tasks assigned to you.

Note: WeDo tasks can be created in SWYM on cloud only

Route Task

Route tasks appear in Collaborative Tasks application, when the route is started.
You can view only route tasks assigned to you.
