Review and Report Design Issues Using Interference Check and 3D Markup Dashboard Apps

Introduction

Conducting an efficient and effective digital mock-up review is an important aspect of the design development process. However, for many stakeholders in the design review process, it is often challenging to have direct and real-time access to the design issues and reviews. Therefore, the issues are often reviewed outside the formal review process, which results in the incorrect resolutions, rework and reduced efficiency.

The Digital Mockup Review Manager (RED) role contains dashboard apps that can be accessed from anywhere, anytime and on any device using the web browser. You can seamlessly visualize and analyze product interference simulations and also collaborate on the design issues early in the design development process.

Reviewing design interferences and inconsistencies and reporting issues and changes require effective collaboration among various stakeholders. Depending on the severity of the issue, time available and details required to communicate the design problem, you can choose dashboard apps to report the issue and/or the change action:

  • Interference Check
  • 3D Markup

Report Design Issues from the Interference Check App

Reporting Issue

The Interference Check dashboard app lets you open interference simulations, visualize them in 3D, perform quick analysis and seamlessly report design issues. You can click on the Analyze Interference icon to open the list of interference simulations with the colors associated to the User Status and Analysis Status.

When you select any interference from the list, the 3D geometry is reframed to display the interfering geometry for the selected interference. You can analyze interference metrics and update user and analysis status.

You can perform a quick review by measuring product dimensions, distance between parts or sectioning the items. After a quick analysis, you can report design issues by creating an issue from the same widget. While defining an issue, you can add a detailed description (based on your findings), set severity and mention recommendations to fix it. By default, an issue is assigned to the owner of the interfering parts. You can change the assignee, if required.

Interfering parts are automatically added in the Reported Against list and the product root is added under the Contexts list. You can add or modify items in these lists.

The interference metric is automatically attached to the issue. You can update the attachments, or attach other relevant 3DEXPERIENCE objects to the issue.

Creating Change Action

For the issues identified during the review, it is important to effectively manage the design change process with full traceability. You can initiate a formal change process to resolve design issues by generating a stand-alone change action from the same widget.

The interfering parts are automatically added in the proposed changes and their root is added as the context. You can update the assignees of the change action from the change action widget app. All the design updates performed by assignees using the change action are captured under the realized changes tab. The change action is added to the “Resolved By” section of the Issue.

Report Design Issues from the 3D Markup App

Critical issues often require detailed and comprehensive analysis. It is important to capture and explain such issues using annotations and markups before reporting them. In such cases, you can switch from the Interference Check dashboard app to the 3D Markup dashboard app by selecting the 3D Markup app from the Compass. The “Transition Complete!” message appears after a successful transition.

The 3D Markup app is a simple and efficient analysis tool that allows you to perform markups on 2D drawings and 3D products for collaborating and communicating on design issues. Using 3D Markup, you can create slides, perform measurements and add annotations for accurate design analysis.

Reporting Issues

After a detailed analysis you can report critical design issues and assign them to the owner of the interfering parts without leaving the 3D Markup widget.

Creating Change Action

For the critical issues identified during the detailed design review, it is important to effectively manage the change process with full traceability. You can initiate a formal change process to resolve design issues and also track design changes made during resolution. To do that, you can generate a stand-alone Change Action directly from the 3D Markup widget. The change action is added to the “Resolved By” section of the Issue.
