Exporting Data using the Product Structure Editor app

The Produc

t Structure Editor (PSE) app supports the export of the product structure into an output file in different formats. The primary method, “Export”, uses the CSV format of Excel. The command provides a different export than you see in most CAD systems. It uses a “What You See is What You Get” (WYSIWYG) approach. Any product selection in the table or the Root List has no effect on the command, only what you see in the product tree (Title column). The level you expand a tree, affects the export content.

Example1:
In this example, we have a product structure expanded one level in the PSE and the resulting CSV export. Only the root and first-level entities appear in the CSV file.

Example2:
In this example, we expand the structure to expose the subcomponents but also the 3D Shapes below them. The resulting export shows the root and two levels in the export. This way of controlling the export gives you expanded ability to report content in the structure beyond the basic bill of materials in the product structure.

Example3:
In this example, we have exposed the relations in the Title column so we can see the associated Specifications and Attachments. Expanding the tree to this level and exporting the CSV, results in the output. The label “Relations” is exported in the CSV file enforcing the WYSIWYG approach of this command.

The second option, Export As”, is only available in the role 3D Product Architect (PAU) for On-Cloud deployments. This command works in a different way from the prior “Export” command. It is based on the selection of the content in the tree since the relationship of the underlying CAD files is a factor in the export. During the export process, you are provided and option to select a specific output format. The available format varies depending on the roles assigned to your user login.

The following video details the process using Native CAD format but the process is the same regardless of the format selected.
