Creating BOM structures in Engineering BOM Management

Hello Everyone,

As you may know, Engineering BOM creation in the system supports both bottom up  and top down methodologies as well as a combination of these. BOM structures can also be created directly from the XCAD solutions including SolidWorks as well as CATIA V5/V6. This allows us to support a broad variety of use-cases. Here is a common scenario we see in the durable goods space...

Marketing defines new end-item product.

Engineering assigns a Part name/number to this end-item for initial ERP capture and definition.

Design builds out the design under the new Part number creating multiple sub-component levels/systems.

Design syncs the completed CAD structure to the BOM creating/reusing Parts and building a complete eBOM structure under the original end-item Part Number establoished by Engineering

In light of this scenario, there are a number of use-cases that we can explore. Within these use-cases are fundamental functions we should all be comfortable with. I have created a brief video here that touches on the fundamentals of manual BOM structure creation. You will likely note that I created this video in R2014/14x environment but the BOM functionality is essentially the same across the 12x-14x releases.

I would like to use this to kick-off a broader discussion of use-cases across your various disciplines.Furthermore, I would like to develop use-case specific videos to drive our own internal development efforts so I look forward to your comments...
